2A Match Report

30 January vs Cornwall at Glover Park

This game continued the longstanding rivalry between the two sides, with the ACSSC side being sent into bat to start the game.

With two wickets again falling before the team score had reached ten the ACSSC team was in immediate trouble. Apart from Andy Arnold with a spirited 37 from 41 balls, no other batsmen got themselves established and the ACSSC team were dismissed for a pathetic 96 runs.

Matt Cowdrey was also lost for the season with a snapped ACL while batting after a collision with the Cornwall wicketkeeper.

Lee Gornall and Lawrence Stephens bowled an accurate and aggressive opening spell without having a lot of luck. At 51/1 after 16 overs the ACSSC team was still in the game and the introduction of Dave Freeman into the attack saw another wicket fall.

Jim Dawson and Ian Taylor took the long handle to the attack however and wrapped up the game without the loss of a further wicket. This will not be a game the ACSSC team will remember fondly.

MVP for the ACSSC team was Andy Arnold with 37 points, Mike Clegg second with 24 and Lee Gornall and Dave Freeman third equal with 20.
