2A Match Report

6th February vs Papatoetoe at Walter Massey Park

After a last minute venue change the ACSSC turned up to one of the worst venues for cricket in Auckland, Walter Massey Park.

After having to wait 30 minutes for the Papatoetoe team who didn't get the message about the ground change, and some time spent removing the bottles from the field (which are hard to spot through the grass that doesn't seem to have seen a mower for a number of weeks) the ACSSC team bowled first.

ACSSC opening bowler Lee Gornall ripped the top off the Papatoetoe innings and at 35/4 the team was well on top. The next two Papatoetoe players added over 100 for the next wicket until Dave Freeman and Lawrence Stephens wrapped up the last few wickets, dismissing Papatoetoe for 235 in the 37th over. Lee Gornall with 4/36 and Dave Freeman with 3/63 were the pick of the ACSSC bowling.

The ACSSC reply started poorly with Campbell McKenzie being dismissed from the first ball and a steady stream of wickets continued to fall. Lee Gornall with 49 was the only ACSSC player to get past 12, the innings coming to a dismal end in the 28th over. Seeing a Papatoetoe player in a wifebeater singlet and MC Hammer pants getting seven wickets just summed the day up.

MVP for the ACSSC team was Lee Gornall with 154 points, Dave Freeman second with 72 and Lawrence Stephens third with 41.
