2A Match Report
16 January vs East Coast Bays at Glover Park
With several of the ACSSC team still away on extended Xmas holidays a depleted side comprising only ten players took on top of the table East Coast Bays at Glover Park.
On a steaming hot day the ACSSC captain lost the toss and we were immediately sent out into the heat to field first. The East Coast Bays openers set a scorching pace and at the first drinks break (thankfully after 15 overs) the scoreboard read 119/0.
After drinks Rob Sadler and Gareth Arnold struck to slow the scoring rate and Lee Gornall and Lawrence Stephens came back in the last few over's to restrict the scoring, East Coast Bays ending on 309/9.
The ACSSC innings began with Campbell Mackenzie blasting the East Coast Bays attack all over the park, and Matt Cowdrey continued that momentum. A runout saw Matt Cowdrey dismissed and the remaining batsmen were unable to maintain the rate required, the team being dismissed in the 34th over for 209, a loss by 100 runs. Matt Cowdrey with 53 was the best of the ACSSC batsmen.
MVP for the day was shared between Matt Cowdrey and Lee Gornall with 78 points, Rob Sadler third with 60 points.
