2A Match Report

31st October vs Mt Wellington at Hamlin Park

On Saturday the ACSSC managed to get 10 guys together (thanks to the two presidents guys that played) for the game vs Mt Wellington. Things started great with ACSSC captain Larry Stephens actually winning the toss, putting Mt Wellington into bat first.

Gareth Arnold and Larry Stephens opened the bowling and the Arnold combination soon claimed the first wicket then a few balls later the second wicket. A third from Gareth saw Mt Wellington reeling at 24/3. Larry Stephens then got the ball in the right place, the runs drying up and more wickets started falling having Mt Wellington 44/6, things looking great for the ACSSC team.

With Johnny and a new left hander at the wicket one more wicket and they were done and dusted - it wasn't to be. Johnny had the game of his life smashing 156* with 13 6's and 11 4's, not even giving a chance in a partnership of 231* for the 7th wicket. Mt Wellington with 275 was going to be a fairly tough chase for the ACSSC team.

After a great lunch of Thai Coconut Chicken (thanks Dave!!) the ACSSC chase began. Cam McKenzie and Mark Bossomworth started slowly but built the scoring rate up, really taking control in the second ten over period.

At 109/0 at drinks the ACSSC team were in a good position to launch for the total. Cam McKenzie being bowled shortly after drinks and Mark Bossomworth being forced to retire since he was already 30 minutes late for his leaving time to get to another function really slowed the chase. A steady procession of wickets followed highlighting the lack of practice of the ACSSC team.

A brief flurry at the end from Glenn Poultney and Larry Stephens entertained but by then it was far to late, the ACSSC team being dismissed for 207.

In the end a reasonable performance given the total lack of any training - a polished fielding performance with no dropped catches the highlight of the day. Player of the day for the ACSSC team goes to Cam McKenzie with 84 MVP points, Larry Stephens second with 78 and Gareth Arnold third with 63.
